DEVELOPMENT has approval which will enhance a route between Chester railway station and the city centre and provide affordable housing.
The plans, put forward by the Muir Group Housing Association, will see a change of use of the upper floors of Maltby's carpet and furniture shop at 84-94 Brook Street to provide five flats and a maisonette.
The scheme will see three two bedroom and three one bedroom homes together with the renovation of the frontage of the terrace property, set in the city centre conservation area, with the traditional windows and shop fronts being restored.
Heritage Lottery funding has been secured through the Townscape Heritage Initiative to secure the regeneration of the building.
All the housing will be affordable, managed by the housing association.
The flats will be within walking distance of a wide range of shops and services and public transport and they believe the change of use will bring more people into the area.
The report suggests the scheme will bring significant improvements to the appearance of Brook Street.
With the weather worsening, Cheshire Police has published a short video for drivers. View it here Read
