Cheshire Police make more than 30 drink and rug driving arrests

POLICE have arrested more than 30 people for drink and drug driving in the space of two weeks.

The figure, which relates to offences in West Cheshire and Chester, comes as a result of a county-wide campaign to target motorists driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The majority of people arrested were male and aged between 17 and 45.

In total 30 were stopped for drink-driving, while one motorist was caught under the influence of drugs.

Most of the arrests occurred between midnight and 7am.

Roads liaison officer Mike Jones said: “Despite our warnings to drivers about keeping themselves safe by not drink or drug driving, it seems some people are still taking risks on the roads.

“The figures are disappointing with the second week being virtually a mirror image of results for the first week of the clampdown.

“Cheshire officers will continue targeting those drivers that fail to listen to the warnings , so make sure it’s not going to be you.”
