Beeston’s dressed poultry sale draws almost 1,000 birds
ONE of the highlights of Christmas came on Tuesday last week with Wright-Manley’s annual dressed poultry sale at Beeston.
Buyers flocked in from miles around to snap up one of the famously fresh free range birds going under the hammer.
This year’s auction featured more than 850 turkeys, 50 geese and 50 ducks.
The heaviest turkey was a 32lb beauty which sold for £46. The champion turkey was a 17-pounder which sold for £42.
The champion goose sold for £62.
“All the birds sold,” said auctioneer Richard Goodwin. “The market was heaving but everyone went away happy with their purchases.”
