THE Queen’s School resounded to the authentic sounds of China when the Nanjing University Orchestra paid a vist.
The orchestra entertained girls and staff with music from their province of Southern Jiangsu and other regions.
Instruments included a bamboo flute, a Chinese lute and a zheng, known in the West as a zither. They also played a Suona, an expressive reed instrument and an erhu, a stringed instrument.
Mandarin teacher David Victor said: “It was a truly mesmerising performance that encompassed a diverse range of traditional pieces from all four corners of China’s vast civilisation”.
