Grieving Chester mum says ‘find my son’s killer’

GRIEVING mother Mary Wilson has renewed an appeal to trace the hit-and-run driver who left her 51-year-old son Steven Wilson dying in the road last Christmas.

Steven was crossing the A540 Parkgate Road, near the home he shared with his mum about 5.15pm on December 20, 2008, when he was struck by a car travelling between 60 and 70mph.

Tests revealed Mr Wilson, a former professional jockey, was brain dead and permission was granted to switch off his life support machine at Liverpool’s Walton Hospital.

Mrs Wilson, 74, of Kingswood Avenue, Saughall, said: “It’s not going to fetch my lad back but I want them to lock them up and throw away the key.

“I don’t know how they can live with their conscience.”

The widow, who lost her husband, Sydney 14 years ago, said there is ‘no closure’ until the driver is caught. And she believes somebody is ‘covering up’ for whoever is responsible.

Mrs Wilson added: “I’m just dead. It’s just unbelievable. I’ve become an old woman. I’ll be 75 in January but I feel about 90.”

“I’m not bothered about Christmas, I don’t want any cards or anything. I’m going to spend a day with my memories.

“They all want me to go here and there but I’m staying here.”

Mrs Wilson, originally from Glasgow, said Steven was her only child and they both looked after each other. She must attend Steven’s inquest on March 8 next year.

“I’ve got to be strong. I have got to see this through,” added Mrs Wilson.

Anyone who can assist police is asked to call Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
