Digital UK advises Granada TV viewers over Welsh channels problem

DIGITAL UK has given advice to residents in the Granada region who have been receiving Welsh channels in place of English ones following the digital TV switchover.

The company has received about 6,000 complaints, including calls from Cheshire residents, about an ‘overlapping signals’ problem.

The problem has arisen because the Moel y Parc TV transmitter near Wrexham, which transmits Welsh TV services, operates at a similar frequency to the Winter Hill transmitter near Bolton, which transmits Granada services for the North West.

It has meant residents are receiving Welsh channels including BBC Wales and S4C at the top of their channel listings, instead of BBC North West and Channel 4.

A Digital UK spokesperson said: “Terrestrial TV signals in parts of the UK have always overlapped, and it’s normal for viewers to be able to receive more than one regional service.

“Viewers can retune their equipment manually to prioritise specific channels, returning them to the top of the list, or make them easier to find by using the ‘favourites’ feature on their digital TV or digital box.
