Cotebrook pub Alvanley Arms launch winter game menu after shooitng season starts at Brook Farm Shoot

GAMEKEEPERS have loaded their guns to help launch a 16th century pub’s new winter game menu.

The shooting season is under way at Brook Farm near Congleton and meat from fallen pheasants, ducks and other game will be served up at the Alvanley Arms in Cotebrook, near Tarporley.

Landlady, Janet King, said: “Game is becoming increasingly popular as it’s a brilliant winter meat and a fantastic alternative to the usual beef, lamb, chicken and fish.

“All our game is sourced locally from the Brook Farm Shoot, near Congleton, so it is completely fresh and does not need to be transported far and wide to get here.”

Gamekeeper James Gordon organises a non-commercial and non-profit shoot on eight days until February 1 and provides all the game meat to the Alvanley Arms.

He said: “What we produce, we eat. We don’t buy from shops, so we know exactly where the meat has come from. Pheasants were introduced into this country purely for gamekeeping purposes and, as a result, woodlands are better managed.”
