CREATIVE pupils have published their first book of poems in an anthology based on the work of sculptor Antony Gormley.
Members of Year 5, known as Willow Class, at Kelsall Primary School have produced Willow’s Space after they visited Gormley’s iconic exhibition on the beaches of Crosby earlier this year.
It is hoped that the school’s poetry project and ongoing creative initatives will tempt Gormley to pay a visit to the school, on Flat Lane.
Deputy headteacher David Wearing said: “Willow’s Place is a collection of original poems based on Antony Gormley’s Another Place.
“The children worked with local poet Tanya Ravenswater editing and improving their work ready to be put together, with photographs of their visit to Crosby this autumn into book format.
“We also worked with a photographer called Ron Davies who gave us inspiration for the book – he has taken some amazing photographs of the figures.
“This work all links in with our creative approach to the curriculum. Our next big task is to contact Antony Gormley who we hope will visit school and work with us on a sculpture project.
“The children are busy writing letters and preparing emails and multi-media presentations.”
Copies of the completed anthology are available to view in school or at www.blurb.com/ books/939301.
