Children go back in time to World War Two at Aldford School

AS PART of the English and history curriculum at Aldford School, the junior department of Abbey Gate College, pupils came dressed as Second World War evacuees.

They have been reading Goodnight Mr Tom, a moving historical novel about this period in history.

To create a fuller understanding of how it may have felt to be evacuated, the day was planned to enable the children to experience a mock evacuation and meet an actual evacuee, who was evacuated to Canada during the war.

She was able to come and meet the class to describe her experiences.

Many children also brought in wartime memorabilia such as a soldier’s war record, uniform, books and toys.
