Get creative for Cancer Research as Doodleplanet takes over Chester venue

CREATIVES are letting their imaginations run wild in aid of North West Cancer Research Fund on Thursday, December 17.

Telford’s Warehouse in Chester will be taken over by doodlers and artists and transformed into DoodlePlanet – an art-led experience which allows people to draw and paint on one of the many blank canvases hanging on the wall of the venue while enjoying a bespoke soundtrack created by DJs.

DoodlePlanet was established two years ago by illustrator David Setter and his partner Heidi Reilly who wanted to fuse their three main loves in life; art, people and music.

David said: “DoodlePlanet is really a chance for people to bring art out of galleries and put its creation straight into a social setting where everyone can watch how it is made.

“It’s a chance for professionals to work alongside non-professionals and share tips and techniques in a really friendly and fun environment.”

At the end of a regular DoodlePlanet artworks are normally kept by their creator or sold for a small donation, but Thursday will bring a fundraising auction where artworks are sold off to the highest bidder to raise cash for North West Cancer Research Fund.

David added: “We lost my mum to cancer and raising money for research into what causes the disease and how it spreads is naturally something myself and my family are dedicated to.

“My dad will be guest auctioneer and my brother Matty has created a distinct soundtrack for the events so it really is a family affair.

“We’re really looking forward to raising lots of money for NWCRF through art and music and have a good time in the process.”

Those wishing to take part or pick up a bargain original artwork at the Christmas DoodlePlanet should head to Telford’s Warehouse in Chester for 7.30pm.

North West Cancer Research Fund provides funds for research into the fundamental causes of cancer at the Universities of Bangor, Lancaster and Liverpool.

By keeping overheads and administration charges to an absolute minimum, the charity is able to give almost 90p in every pound raised directly to support research.
