Mollington man set own trousers on fire after trying to light up fireplace with petrol can

A MOLLINGTON resident who tried to light up his fireplace with the assistance of a petrol can received burns to his legs and hand after he set his trousers on fire.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service was called out to tackle the incident, which occurred in Townfield Lane at about 6.40pm on Friday, December 4.

Firefighters administered first aid to the man, who had run out into the garden to put out the blaze, and cleared the house of smoke. The man sustained burns to his legs and his right hand was then taken to hospital.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We would certainly advise against using flammable equipment such as a petrol can when starting a fire.”
