Success at New Church Christmas market in Newton
THE credit crunch has had little effect on a Newton church this Christmas.
The Christmas Market at the New Church, Dicksons Drive, Saturday raised £1,500 for church funds – exactly the same amount as last year’s event.
Customers came from as far afield as Mold and Mickle Trafford, Pwllheli and Ellesmere Port to join Newton and Hoole residents at the annual festive fair.
Top fundraiser was the cake stall, run by Pamela Ryder and her helpers, which took an amazing £602.
Other high earners were Gaynor Lynch’s collectables, Mary Pulsford and Jeff Formstone’s plants, and refreshments served by Linda Formstone with Guides from the 17th Chester company as waitresses.
The Brownie pack ran a successful tombola and other stalls included preserves, toys, books, bric a brac, lucky dips and competitions.
The Rev Norman Ryder said: “The formula for beating the credit crunch is good quality goods, warm and friendly service and brand loyalty!”
