More than 550 domestic abuse victims helped by safety unit in West Cheshire over 12 months

LATEST figures reveal that 556 adults were supported in a 12 month period by West Cheshire Domestic Abuse Family Safety Unit.

That was the statistic revealed on White Ribbon Day, November 25

The figures between April 2008 and March 2009 also show that 505 adults with 534 children were referred to refuges in Cheshire West and Chester.

And 4,758 domestic incidents were reported to police in West Cheshire.

Cheshire West and Chester Council is one of the largest contributors to the Domestic Abuse Partnership, employing staff in the Domestic Abuse Family Safety Unit and taking the lead on developing Domestic Abuse Strategy.

Council leader Mike Jones said: “I was delighted to wear a white ribbon to demonstrate our commitment to eradicating violence and abuse in families.

“It has become a symbol for the international recognition that the violence and abuse that some women experience daily in their own homes, is a crime that cannot be ignored.”
