Young apprentices from rural Cheshire win awards at Reaseheath College

A TRIO of apprentices made the grade at Reaseheath College.

Andrew Goff, 19, from Utkinton near Tarporley, scooped the best construction apprentice award while Josh Johnson, a joiner at Conran Homes, near Bunbury, took top honours in the further education (vocation) category of the North West Learner Awards 2009.

They were joined in the winners section by Chester-based builder Tom Stubbs who was crowned Reaseheath’s overall apprentice of the year.

Former Tarporley High School pupil Goff, who works at JT Johnson and Sons, is an advanced apprentice and has moved onto supervision and management level.

Delighted to receive his award, he said: “I’m really proud to have been chosen for this award. I enjoy my work because I feel I’m achieving something worthwhile and I like coming to college because I’m always learning something new.”

Last year’s apprentice of the year Johnson specialises in handcrafted woodwork and helped to produce risk assessments for a new workshop.

Stubbs, who works for A Estcourt and Sons in Warmingham, was put forward by tutors in the national Skillbuild competition.
