Tiverton and Tilstone Fearnall Parish Council are undertaking a study of the village’s hedgerows for Defra

A STUDY of hedgerows has been undertaken by Tiverton and Tilstone Fearnall Parish Council.

The survey, organised by Defra, involves a random sample of hedges being examined to see what is growing there and identifying anything of particular interest. Tiverton and Tilstone Fearnall, being large rural parishes, have many miles of hedgerow.

A parish council spokesman said: “It has been encouraging to find in the sample some beautiful examples of both ancient and recently planted hedges, containing a variety of species, hopefully also supporting wildlife.” The information will be put on a database.
