Explorer scouts from Chester head for Westminster

EXPLORER Scouts from Chester have seen the splendour of the Speaker’s House at Westminster.

Chester MP Christine Russell introduced the Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, Sylvia Heal MP, from Deeside, to Sarah Hopkinson, 18, and Michael Oddie, 15, members of Chester Renegades Explorer Scout Unit.

The visitors joined MPs at the Annual Speaker’s Reception for the Scouts.

Sarah, a former Queen’s Park High School pupil, is now working at the Countess of Chester Hospital. Michael is now completing his GCSE studies at Queen’s Park High.

Mrs Heal told the visitors: “The vast majority of young people in Britain are a credit to their families and communities.”

Mrs Russell said: “Scouting is all about trying new experiences and contributing to society. This reception certainly reflects that.

“It was a great opportunity for Sarah and Michael to visit the Palace of Westminster and to learn about Parliament.”
