Trees are felled

CONTRACTORS trimming hedges around London Road playing field in Frodsham have mistakenly felled a line of mature damson trees.

Town councillors said the trees were about 20 years old and they unaware they had been cut down until distressed residents complained.

There is a chance that remaining suckers will eventually reproduce the damson trees. New growth will be observed over the coming year and, if they don’t survive, new trees will be planted, possibly as commemorative trees for residents.

The contractor had offered to supply replacement fruit trees.
