Northbound carriageway of M6 reopened between junctions 18 and 19 after lorry shed its load of bitumen and diesel

THE NORTHBOUND carriageway of the M6 has reopened between junctions 18 and 19, following an oil tanker spillage.

Work to clear the carriageway of bitumen and diesel has been successful, and the area was reopened at about 11.30am today (Tuesday).

The southbound carriageway is still closed between Holmes Chapel and Knutsford while workers clear away a 15-metre section of the spillage, carrying out some minor resurfacing, as well as finalising repairs to the central reservation.

The motorway is expected to be fully reopened later today.
