Need agreed for farm worker’s accommodation near Malpas

OUTLINE plans have been agreed for an agricultural worker's dwelling at a livestock farm.

Permission for the accommodation was sought by Mr A Baker at Hampton Grange, Shay Lane, Hampton. The modern farm is in open countryside near Malpas.

No objections were raised by parish councillors or by neighbours.

The farm is part of a wider agricultural business centred at Park Farm, five miles away. It has a house occupied by the farm manager.

The needs of the livestock at Hampton Grange are met by the farm and livestock managers who both live some distance from the holding.

Park Farm is a county farm and it is “highly unlikely” the lease will be renewed when it expires as it is intended for occupation by new entrants to farming, planning officers were told. It is expected that successful businesses will move on to new holdings. Mr Baker says it is intended to move the centre of the business to Hampton Grange and in any event the facilities at Park Farm are “significantly below” modern standards.
