A lorry driver who was knocked down by a car in Frodsham is calling for the driver to come forwards so they won’t be prosecuted

A FORGIVING lorry driver who was knocked down by a car is calling for the driver to come forward so they won’t be prosecuted.

Mark Stapleford, 50, of Barnsley, suffered a severely broken leg when he was hit by a burgundy Ford Ka driven by elderly woman last Tuesday at about 5.15pm.

After making a delivery to Quinn Glass, Elton, Mark was making his way back to Barnsley when he caught tail backs following a crash on the M56.

He said: “I came off the M56 and joined the A56 because of the traffic and there’s a low bridge as you come in to the village. I stopped to make sure the trailer would fit underneath it and as I stepped back to look at the gap I was hit by a car.

“It was an elderly woman with a child, she was a driving a burgundy colour car. She was concerned, she got out to ask if I was okay? I said ‘I think so, it’s just a dead leg’. She said ‘you sure you are okay?’ and then drove off.

“I got back in to the cab and drove back to Barnsley. When I got in my partner took me to hospital and they said I had suffered a double break.”

Mark was released from hospital on Friday and reported the incident to Cheshire Police for insurance purposes after finding out he faces a gruelling three months recovery.

“I don’t see the point of getting down about the injury. I just want to get hold of the lady, I don’t want them to press charges but I was told she could be arrested for failing to report an incident or driving with undue care and attention.”

Cheshire Police spokeswoman Jo Priehs said: “We are continuing with our inquires and looking into the circumstance of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to ring 0845 458 0000.”
