Chester people asked to support our services on march through city on Friday

A FORMER fusilier is calling on Chester to show its support as soldiers stationed at the city’s Dale Camp prepare to leave for Afghanistan.

The call has come from Robert McConnell of Picton Gorse in Chester who carried out his National Service with The Royal Welch Fusiliers.

Their successors, the 1st Battalion of the Royal Welsh, are currently based in the city.

Led by their colonel, Nick Lock, the 1st Battalion will undertake an eight mile march on Friday, September 25 as a part of their training from The Dale into the city centre arriving at the Town Hall at 11am.

"This is Chester's opportunity to show their support for our services," said Mr McConnell.

"All those taking part will be undertaking this service in Afghanistan on our behalf and deserve our support. "

The battalion will pause at the town hall for half an hour where there will be military stands to demonstrate some of its operational capabilities.
