Chester hosted the Forget Me Not Walk for Leukaemia Research on Sunday

MORE than 200 people stepped out and took part in the Forget Me Not Walk around Chester on Sunday in aid of Leukaemia Research.

The five kilometre stroll took in the main sights of Chester including the Rows, the Castle and the city walls.

Event organisers estimated the walk raised £15,000 through sponsorship.

It is the third year the walk has taken place in Chester, but the first time it has started and ended at Chester Cathedral.

Event Organiser Lucy Goldswain said: “This is one of the only walks in the North West so we have a huge draw, and its very achievable for the whole family – it’s a nice thing to do together.”

Walkers took with them fundraising buckets and waved Leukaemia Research flags along the way.

The Lord Mayor John Ebo started the walk and along with his children and wife walked it himself.

He told walkers at the start-line that he is pleased to be raising money for Leukaemia Research because he has his own connection with Leukaemia as his niece has the illness. At the end of the walk he presented each participant with a medal. Leukaemia Research hope to do the walk in the city again next year. To find out more go to www.lrf.org.uk.
