Little Sutton cancer survivor helps launch Cancer Research UK’s national breast cancer campaign

A CANCER survivor has helped launch a national charity campaign.

Kim Tanner, who was treated at the Countess of Chester Hospital, joined a squad of celebrities including Mica Paris, cancer survivors, patients, doctors, scientists and fundraisers for a march through London to launch Cancer Research UK’s breast cancer campaign: Join the fight for women’s survival.

On August 23, dressed head-to-toe in pink and blue camouflage, the 46-strong group stepped out representing the 46,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK.

Kim, 50, said: “I was honoured to join Cancer Research UK’s pink platoon and raise awareness of breast cancer and the strides being made to help women like me.

“I am living proof research into breast cancer leads to effective treatments and saves lives.

“But this research is very expensive so Cancer Research UK needs everyone to help raise funds for its doctors, nurses and scientists who are working on the front line against the disease.”

Kim, who works for the Everton Foundation, found a pea-sized lump on her left breast in October 2005.

After seeing her GP she underwent tests at a breast clinic which revealed she had cancer.

Kim, of Little Sutton, underwent a mastectomy at the Countess of Chester Hospital and had all the lymph nodes from under her left arm removed. Her cancer treatment finished in July 2006.

Kim added: “If I can inspire just one woman to take up her breast screening invitation then I know I am making a difference.

“I was treated successfully for breast cancer because I was diagnosed at a very early stage.”
