McRae Gathering presentation in honour of 1995 World Rally Championship winner Colin McRae held at Chester Racecourse

A SPONSORED two-day drive from more than 1,000 Subaru drivers in honour of Britain’s first world rally champion proved a charity success.

The McRae Gathering, in memory of Scottish ace, Colin McRae, raised £53,000.

And the organisers picked Chester Racecourse for his father Jimmy to hand over the proceeds.

Colin clinched the 1995 World Rally Championship title in a Subaru Impreza in dramatic style at Chester racecourse in front of thousands of spectators.

That triumphant scene was partially replicated when Jimmy fired up the engine of his son’s title-winning Subaru.
