Lock leaflet warning

POLICE in Chester are warning residents not to be taken in by leaflets selling locks claiming to be endorsed by Cheshire police officers.

Leaflets have been posted through doors in Upton and Kingsway advertising a locksmith’s service, using comments on security from Inspector Ian Thorp.

The comments were made as part of a newspaper article advising residents on general shed and bicycle security and did not relate to any specific product, service or business.

Insp Thorp said: “Cheshire police do not endorse commercial products in this way and I did not give permission for my name or quotes to be used.

“I would urge residents to ignore any mention of Cheshire police in advertising of this business.”
