I AM JUST replying to the picture taken on the River Dee.
These are obviously salmon anglers – the deer-stalker hat gives that away, and the rod with Mitchell fixed spool – but these people aren't the landed gentry sort which were predominant on so many beats of the Dee.
The river’s running quite fast so, hazarding a guess, I would plug for it being taken somewhere around the Bangor-on- Dee area.
All those trees on the far bank which have been coppiced are crack willow, which is synonymous with the middle reaches of the Dee.
Hope this sheds a little light.
