Helsby Quarry Local Nature Reserve and The Little Wood, Bowyers Waste in Oakmere scoop Green Flag awards

OAKMERE’S The Little Wood has won a Green Flag award– for the first time.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has been awarded six Green Flags for parks and countryside sites, with Helsby Quarry Local Nature Reserve claiming a third.

The flag is a national award and to achieve the prize they must meet strict criteria including being welcoming, safe and well-maintained, having a management plan in place and working with the community.

The other winners were Whitby Park in Ellesmere Port, Stanney Fields Park in Neston, Furey Wood in Northwich and Marshall’s Arm Local Nature Reserve in Hartford.
