Chester’s Lord Mayor’s Parade dropped in favour of parade to coincide with St George’s Day

THERE will be no Lord Mayor’s Parade in Chester this year.

The decision to cancel the parade, which would have taken place last Saturday, was taken by Chester City Council before the local authorities shake-up earlier this year.

Cheshire West and Chester council spokesman Mike McGivern said: “With the local government reorganisation in Cheshire and the uncertainty as to who the mayors would be in the area, by the time it was all geared up it was decided it wouldn’t be practical to have a parade this summer.

“It was agreed to have a parade held toward the end of the Lord Mayor’s year instead, coinciding with St George’s Day next April.”
