Buckley man charged with drug smuggling

A BUCKLEY man is due to appear in court today (Friday) charged with attempting to smuggle £5.4m worth of heroin into the country.

David Lewis, 47, of Nant Mawr Crescent, was driving a lorry which disembarked a ferry at Dover’s Eastern Docks early yesterday morning (Thursday, July 17).

UK Border Agency (UKBA) officials searched the vehicle and discovered a large number of brown-taped packages hidden within the structure of the trailer.

Officials seized approximately 120 kilos of heroin worth about £5,400,000 and about six kilos of amphetamine sulphate worth about £60,000.

Mr Lewis is due to appear before Folkestone Magistrates this morning.
