Thousands expected at Kelsall Steam and Vintage Rally

THOUSANDS are expected to descend on Kelsall next weekend as the Steam and Vintage Rally rolls into town.

Now in its ninth year, classic steam engines, vintage cars and motorcycles will be on show at Churches View Farm.

Organisers have ordered more than 10 tonnes of coal as 1,000 exhibits have been confirmed, with many old engines arriving under their own steam.

Marie Cliffe, who helps run the showcase event off Kelsall Road, said: “We have been overwhelmed this year by the amount of exhibits that people want to show. Overall there will about 1,000 exhibits displayed over the weekend.

“We only started this as a one-off event and now it has become quite an effort to organise!

“Despite the credit crunch we have got steam engines and exhibitors coming from Scotland to Cornwall and everywhere in between.

“Some will already be in steam as they arrive as they are driving here while others will be towed.”

The event is on Saturday and Sunday, June 27 and 28, and gates at Churches View Farm open to the public at 9.30am.

As well as the traditional steam engines being displayed and paraded in all their glory, tractors, commercial and stationary vehicles will be on show.

There will also be a fun fair, award displays, trade stands and various refreshment facilities.

“There really is something for everyone and if people want to come then please feel free,” added Ms Cliffe.

The event will also host the annual gathering of lorry firm ERF while the Foden Society and Morris Commercial Club will be in attendance.

Entrance costs £5 adults, £2 children and £4 OAPs. For further details please call 07739 958294.
