Tarporley Parish Council object to demolition plan

TARPORLEY Parish Council has objected to an application to demolish a 200-year-old house in the village.

The owner of Clovelly House on Eaton Road has applied to Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) to demolish the property and replace it with a house of similar style.

The design and access statement put together on behalf of the owner says: “The existing property is of poor quality construction and has suffered from settlement which may be progressive.”

It would be “inappropriate” to extend or renovate the property, the owner claims.

The parish council and CWAC conservation and design manager David Hayes disagree.

Mr Hayes said in his report: “No obvious justification has been given for the demolition of the property.”

He felt no evidence had been submitted to show that extending the property is “unacceptable” and there is no suggestion the property is in disrepair.

He goes on to say: “Without any justification for demolition, I consider that the loss of this property will have an adverse impact upon the character of the conservation area and therefore the application should be refused.”

The parish council has written to the council and members strongly object to the plans.

They said: “This large detached house, thought to be circa 17th century and facing directly on to Eaton Road, makes a significant contribution to the character and appearance of Tarporley village.

“The parish council also objects to the demolition of the pigsty and garage that has taken place without planning permission.”
