Chester's New Church garden fete takes place indoors because of rain

SATURDAY afternoon’s downpour didn’t dampen spirits at Chester’s New Church garden fete.

The event, which had to be moved to the Dickson’s Drive church and church hall, raised more than £1,665 for church funds.

The Rev Norman Ryder said: “I was expecting a call to say that it was off but Plan B went into action and it was a success.”

Victoria Byrne, 12, was crowned rose queen in the church hall, attended by Hannah Kirwan, five, Olivia Evans, eight, and Beth Evans, nine.

Following the ceremony, dancers from the Beryl Martin School of Dancing entertained with excerpts from their coming end-of-year show.

Jane Asher would have been envious of the quality and quantity of delicious cakes for sale on the cake stall as well as fresh homemade pizza, quiche and Cornish pasties.

The Beryl Martin School of Dancing show will take place at Queen’s Park High School on June 26 and 27 at 7pm.
