FIRE crews were called to a blaze at a derelict building on Thursday, June 4.
Three fire engines, a hydraulic platform and aerial appliance were called at about 5.45am to the Fountains building, St Martins Way.
Crew manager Andy Boyle said: “The fire got quite serious at one point and the concrete started exploding outwards.”
A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police assisted county fire brigade by closing roads in the vicinity (Delamere Street and parts of Liverpool Road/St Martins Way) while the fire was extinguished. Nobody was hurt.”
Crews believe the blaze was started by homeless people using matches to light a fire to keep warm which then got out of control.
