Department for Children, Schools and Families’Play Builder project will see thousands spent at a Frodsham playground

A PLAYGROUND project costing more than £1 million will give children in Frodsham the opportunity to choose which equipment they want.

Saltworks Farm, Ship Street, will be given an envrionmentally sourced upgrade, costing thousands of pounds, and work is likely to start at the site in April 2010.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families’ (DCSF) Play Builder project will see 22 play areas in Cheshire given an upgrade to provide high quality, safe play areas for youngsters aged between eight and 13.

A Cheshire West and Chester spokeswoman said: “Work will start in April, 2010. We will engage with children in the area and find out what they would like there. The site will be about managing risk and playing to get fitter.”

Timber climbing equipment, earth mounds, plants, shrubs and landscaping will be used to allow children to play in a traditional environment.

The charity Play England will monitor the two-year programme.

Regional programme and development officer Natasha Moody said: “This is a fantastic time for Cheshire West and Chester as they involve children, young people, parents and the wider community in the development of the play spaces.”

A total of £1,006,884 will be spent across 22 sites earmarked across the county.
