12th Chester (St Mark’s) Brownie pack celebrates 70th anniversary
BROWNIES young and old are invited to a pack’s 70th birthday celebration this Saturday.
The 12th Chester (St Mark’s) Brownie pack is inviting members, past and present, to ‘Celebration Time’ from 2-5pm at St Mark’s Church Centre, Saltney.
Brown Owl Lorraine Halsall, who has been with the pack for more than 30 years, has gathered scrapbooks, photographs and memorabilia for the event to celebrate one of Cheshire’s oldest Brownie packs.
She said: “We are very excited about Celebration Time and really look forward to welcoming anyone with a connection to the 12th Chester Brownies. It is testimony to the enduring value and popularity of Brownies that we are still going strong after 70 years.
“I would like to thank every Brownie, Guider, helper and volunteer who has been involved in making those 70 years a success.”
The pack was registered on April 11, 1939, and the first Brown Owl was a Miss Hilda Errington. First pack leader was Joan Baldwin, whose sister Amy became Brown Owl of the pack in 1947 until 1992.
A 70th anniversary celebration cake will be cut at the event on Saturday.
