King’s school pupil named young geographer of the year.

A KING’S School pupil is the UK Young Geographer of the Year.

Joe Benson, 16, of Marford, won the title in a competition organised by the Royal Geographical Society. More than 1,800 pupils entered the competition.

The year 11 pupil at King’s, compiled a 1,500 word description of an Arctic journey, accompanied by a video blog, and scooped first prize in the senior category for 16 to 18-year-olds.

The video was shot in the garden of his home by his 13-year-old sister, Meredith. His prize is an Arctic Adventure expedition to Greenland in July.
