Deeside leeks help beat the credit crunch

LEEK growers in Sealand have announced a record harvest.

Charlie Lightbown and his Really Welsh team at Wood Farm, Sealand, pulled 1,600 tonnes over the leek harvest season.

The figure easily beat the previous record a year earlier.

“Starting earlier, and finishing later, has been the single biggest factor,” said Charlie.

“Working with varieties better suited to the Welsh climate has helped too, not to mention the bigger appetite for our leeks among consumers.”
