Chester Charity Beer Festival at Chester Rugby Club, Hare Road, raises £9,000

CHESTER Charity Beer Festival is toasting success after raising £9,000.

The event, hosted by Chester Grosvenor 76 Round Table and Chester and South Clwyd Branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale), is in its 21st year and was held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 14-16, at Chester Rugby Club, Hare Lane.

More than 1,800 people attended over the three days, sampling a wide range of beer, wines, perries and ciders.

Festival organiser Paul Chambers said: “Great beer, great music, great craic.

“Is there a better way to raise money for charity? See you all again next year!”

The crowds were entertained by local bands Ego King, Safehouse and MGB, who all offered their services for free.

Each night there was a raffle and the proceeds will be donated to three charities.

Thursday night’s raffle raised £500 which will go to the Baby Life Line Appeal at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

On Friday £2,250 was raised and will go to Claire House Children’s Hospice.

North West Air Ambulance will receive £600 from the Saturday raffle.

The other money raised will be distributed to local charities throughout the year.
