Chester school evacuated after fire alert

STAFF and pupils were evacuated from The Ridings Primary School in Saughall after a vacuum cleaner motor burnt out activating smoke detectors.
The caretaker, who was using the cleaner at the time, removed the appliance to the outside. Fire crews from Chester, who were alerted about 4.10pm on Thursday (April 30), were sent to investigate.
Pupils involved with after-school activities were still present but there was no danger to anyone.
