His car, a blue Nissan Primera, left the carriageway just before 9am as he was travelling on the A534, close to the Egerton Arms public house.

His devastated family have released a statement through Cheshire Police.

The statement said: “Trefor was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

“He was incredibly generous and always took pride in his grandchildren and their achievements.

“He was the one to turn to in times of trouble.”

Mr Jones, who carried out national service in the RAF, loved sports and was a keen footballer in his younger years.
