Family escape burning boat on River Weaver, in Frodsham.

A FAMILY had a lucky escape when their boat went up in flames on the River Weaver in Frodsham.

Fire crews from Ellesmere Port, Widnes, Warrington, and Stockton Heath were called to a report of an explosion on a boat at 5pm on Monday.

The small motor cruiser was in the River Weaver just off the A56 in Frodsham.

On arrival crews found a man and woman and two children had escaped from a burning boat to the river bank.

An ambulance attended the scene but the family declinedmedical assistance.

Crews fought the fire which involved a small glass fibre boat using two pumps.

They extingushed the blaze but the boat was left unusable.
