Shoppers evacuated from Chester city centre store

SHOPPERS, staff and homeowners were evacuated from the Bridge Street Rows in Chester at noon today (Friday, March 6) after a fire alarm went off in an outdoors store.

Workers in the Field and Trek shop said an alarm had gone off and they were unable to turn it off.

Crowds of people gathered as three fire engines, including an aerial platform, attended the scene.

About 20 people including staff at Crew Clothing, WRC, Field and Trek, The Slug And Lettuce, Wesley Barrell as well as several residents, spent about an hour outside their premises as Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service searched the building.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “There were two appliance from Ellesmere Port and one from Chester. It was a false alarm.”
