German retail chain Vom Fass opens a shop on Watergate Street Chester

UNDETERRED by the recession, German chain Vom Fass has opened a store on Watergate Street.

The shop stocks an extensive selection of fruit vinegars, oils, wines, exotic liqueurs and fine and rare spirits, all sourced from leading producers worldwide.

Vom Fass translates as “from the cask” and this is the concept of the business – all products are sold straight from the cask.

Store manager Stephen O’Connor, of Brookfield, Haslington, Crewe, said: “I used to work as a paramedic for the North West Ambulance Service and I got the opportunity to take early retirement.

“I looked into what else I could do and discovered Vom Fass.

“I was particularly taken by the company’s green retail concept and signed up a year ago.”

The shop has a try before you buy policy, enabling customers to sample the wide range of premium quality products on offer.

Customers are then invited to choose a container to fill with the liquid of their choice.

There are more than 70 different designs of bottle such as the popular, stacking tower bottles, to modern and quirky styles such as the stiletto shoe and Adam and Eve figures.

Bottles come in various sizes, which can be refilled again and again, giving customers the chance to sample small amounts of products or buy larger bottles of their favourites.

Customers can even bring in any glass container from home to be refilled as the products are sold by the volume.
