Public consultation regarding the new Cheshire West & Chester and Cheshire East councils has begun.

A PUBLIC consultation regarding the new Cheshire West & Chester and Cheshire East councils has begun.

The independent Boundary Committee for England has started the first round of consultation as part of its review of local government electoral arrangements. This lasts for six weeks, ending on April 6.

During this stage the committee is to decide how many councillors the new councils should have. Later in the year it will ask for views on which areas those councillors should represent.

The review is due to end in spring 2010 when the committee makes its final recommendations.

Committee chairman Max Caller said: “We want to make sure the electoral arrangements of the new authorities in Cheshire work best for everyone across the county.
