Lady Heyes Craft Centre is planning to build an 80 pitch touring caravan site

A CRAFT centre is hoping to beat the credit crunch by building an 80-pitch caravan site.

Lady Heyes Craft Centre has applied to Vale Royal Borough Council to build the site, which will include washing and toilet facilities, on a disused field.

Director and owner Tony Faulkner said: “We have been planning this for about 12 months. There is nothing else around like us in the area.

“I want to get more people in to the site, we are in an economic slowdown, and people aren’t spending as much.

“If we get planning permission hopefully it will be open by the end of summer.

“We already have facilities at the craft centre that would lend themselves to a caravan park on site. “There’s Coco’s Play Barn, which would be ideal for youngsters to visit while their parents go shopping, and we have an award-winning brewery.”

In August, 2007, 10 years after the craft centre opened, plans to develop an eight-acre field at the rear of Lady Heyes Farm to accommodate up to 141 touring caravans were rejected.

Councillors had concerns about potential problems caused by extra traffic accessing the site.
