WOMEN are urged to step out as a fundraising event takes to the streets of Chester for the first time this year.
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life aims to recruit 7,000 women to join in and raise funds while taking in the historic sights.
The 5k course – the biggest city centre Race for Life in the North West – starts and finishes at Chester Racecourse on Sunday, June 14.
Chester Race for Life area event manager Helen Wright said: “We hope everyone will accept our invitation to do something amazing by taking part in Race for Life.”
Last year 5,000 women joined in the race fun at Chester Zoo, raising £261,700 to help research into all forms of cancer.
This year the charity hopes the switch to a city centre route, taking in Chester’s famous Eastgate Clock, will inspire more women to sign up.
Miss Wright said: “Today more than 95% of men diagnosed with testicular cancer are cured and more women are surviving breast cancer than ever.
“But we still have a long way to go – with your help we want to change that.
“Cancer Research UK believes research is key to developing better ways of preventing, detecting and treating cancer.”
Cancer Research UK Race for Life patron Gloria Hunniford, a long-standing supporter of the event, said: “Race for Life is a very moving and emotional experience for me.
“It’s four years since I lost my daughter Caron to cancer but even in this short period of time treatments for the disease have improved so much.”
Race registration is now open. To sign up, go to www.raceforlife.org.
