Council approves giant M&S store in the Port

BOROUGH councillors have given the go-ahead for the multi-million-pound new Marks & Spencer department store in Ellesmere Port.

The planning committee, meeting last night (Tuesday), declared it was “minded” to grant the application on land at Stanney Woods Avenue and Longlooms Road, opposite The Coliseum.

The scheme will then have to be forwarded to Communities Secretary Hazel Blears.

If she has no objections, and M&S abide by a string of conditions including making financial contributions to the town, then the council’s head of planning will have delegated powers to grant the scheme.
