A SHOPPING crime awareness day will be held by Cheshire police in Chester city centre on Tuesday, December 9.
Cheshire Police will be asking both shoppers and retail outlets to raise awareness of pick pockets and shoplifters this Christmas.
Sgt Andy Pickup said: “It is only three weeks to go and I am sure that many of you will be visiting the shops. As the city gets more crowded this also affords criminals with additional opportunities to commit crime.
“Shoplifting offences will no doubt increase but what is particularly worrying is thefts of personal effects such as handbags.
“These offences are particularly upsetting and it can cause a big loss in their confidence about going out and a feeling of vulnerability.”
If anyone has any community issues they should contact the Neighbourhood Policing Team on 0845 458 6384 or email Chester.inner.cat@cheshire.pnn.police.uk.
