Electrical advice for Chester shoppers on staying safe at Christmas

THE Electrical Safety Council is coming to the Broughton Shopping Park near Chester on Saturday, December 6 to offer people essential advice on keeping their homes and families safe over the holiday period.

The Christmas road-show will include free giveaways, sound recommendations and the opportunity to win prizes in a quiz.

Once a year, festive fairy lights and colourful Christmas illuminations are retrieved from lofts and basements nationwide, but poorly stored, damaged and old electrical decorations can pose a safety hazard.

Electric plug sockets are also much in demand over Christmas, not just to power fairy lights, but also to accommodate new electrical toys and gadgets and overloading plug sockets can also be dangerous.

Phil Buckle, director of charitable affairs at the Electrical Safety Council, said: “The last thing on most people’s mind over Christmas is electrical safety. By carrying out some simple checks and taking basic precautions before putting up your Christmas lights, you can help make sure your home is safe.”

The Electrical Safety Council trailer will provide more than just guidance. Featuring a food hamper as a quiz prize, the trailer will offer a wealth of informative electrical safety leaflets as well as free RCD giveaways and seasonal treats.
