Chester women get chance to be a “Handbag for a Day”

FOLLOWING the success of Chester women’s choir A Handbag of Harmonies on the BBC1 talent show Last Choir Standing, women have been clamouring for an opportunity to be a “Handbag” for a day.

The brainchild of Alison Pitt, a founder member of the choir, the workshops are led by musical director Matt Baker and saxophonist Erin Elston.

Claire Smith, who founded the choir more than eight years ago, said: “We started Handbag for a Day for those people who enjoy singing but just can not commit to becoming a member of a choir.

“As the choir has become more and more popular it has been a great opportunity to involve more people.”

Fifty women attended the latest workshop at Chester’s Forum Theatre, which is run by Tip Top Productions.
